Transformation Brainstorm!

  • If you could transform yourself into another person, who would it be?  Would it be a person of a certain occupation?  A celebrity?  A family member? A fictional character? I'm going to try and transform myself into Britney Spears, because she has had a lot of different hairstyles and reasons for getting caught by the paperazi.

  • Why do you want to transform yourself into this person? Because she seems really funny and has a lot of personality! i also really loved her music when i was little.

  • What locations will you photograph yourself in? probably a picture somewhat like the one above, also on maybe a red carpet, walking around and inside my house.

  • What props will you need in order to complete this transformation? A background picture of a car, red carpet, and a barber shop!

  • What research will you need to do in order to photograph yourself as this person? Find as many memorable pictures of britney as possible!

  • Upload a photo of inspiration for your new character. Explain how you will create the mood and expression of that person in your photo series. I'll just make sure to try and make the same face she is making, then photoshop my head bald! Haha!

    American Photography 3

    Answer the following questions:
    1. What event from this segment was most eye-opening for you? Why? The part that i thought was the most interesting was when they talked about how many people didnt know a lot about the world other than from pictures. As if people had no idea what else went on around the world.
    2. How have photographs changed the way we see the world? It helps us to truly see what indigenous people look like and what they do.
    3. What impact have digital photos had on the world? it helped people share pictures all around the world and it was quicker to develop and see the pictures.
    4. If this video were to continue on to 2011, what events would be covered? What new technologies would you see? Ipods/ipads, cell phone cameras, really nice digital cameras.

    Digital Collage

Answer the following questions in paragraph form:
    • What imagery appears in your collage?
    • What types of changes did you make to the layers of your collage?
    • How did your idea for your collage change as you were working on it?
    • What new ideas did you try out in your collage?
    • What is most successful in your collage?
    • What would you change and why?
    • Anything else?

I used a lot of animals in my collage because I have two cats, a dog, and a bunch of fish at home that I love dearly, I wanted to incorporate animals into my collage. I kept changing my ideas to make it more of my perfect world rather than what other people might think of as perfect. The thing i like most about my collage is that everything in it is things i really like or care about. I would make my collage flow a little better, i really had a hard time deciding where everything should go, so if i could blend my collage a little better and have everything fit that would help a lot! I really liked this project, i thought it was really creative and a lot of fun! I wish i would have had a better idea of what to put in my collage too.. oh well! save that for next time :)

      Ideal World

      1. If you lived in your ideal world, what would it look like? Everything would be green (healthy) there would be a lot of family owned restaurants and little shops. There wouldn't be any giant corporations- everything would be very family oriented. People would be kind and say hi to each other on the streets and there would not be a lot of upper class people there- to make everyone equal. Imagine Lake Calhoun area/NE Minneapolis (Johnson/29th avenue area..) My world would be a lot like that!
      2. Where would it be? Somewhere a lot like here, a little bit of all seasons.
      3. What colors would you see? Green, a lot of grass, fun colors! whatever colors people want to paint their shops and houses.
      4. What objects or things would be common? Bicycles, people, art shows, shops.
      5. What objects or things wouldn't be common? Large corporations, chain restaurants.
      6. What type of people would live there? All types as long as they are nice and don't look down on other people.
      7. How would people interact with each other? The ways we do now, on the phone, computer, in person, texting, etc.
      8. What else?  Tell me something unique about your perfect world.  I wouldn't really want to change anyone so that they would be living in my "perfect world" i would want it to be more of a realistic thing, rather than thinking of it as a cult or something... So i guess right now my world is pretty ideal. BUT, money wouldn't have to exist. Because, for some reason the world revolves around money and i would want it to mean more than that- rather than selfish people who think getting people to like them by buying stuff works.. i would rather have everyone be known for their personality or what they like, etc.

      Documentary Photographs

      Princess

      Christmas Tree

      Red

      Welcome

      Tree

      Lights

      Belts

      • What did you photograph for your documentary photography series? I spent one of my shifts at my new job,  A Bag Lady, taking some pictures of my boss and I setting up our new christmas decorations and rearranging the store.
      • Why did you choose to document this? I chose to document my work because it's really fun and new and there's a lot to look at! Right when you walk in there's a bunch of clothes and jewelry all over, catching your eye. So i thought it would make some really unique photographs.
      • What did you want to reveal or show about it? I wanted to show how different my work is from many others. A Bag Lady is a lot like Patina, but smaller and more personal. Anyone can find something fun and special to them and it's a great place to just walk around and look at new stuff!
      • What did you learn about what you documented during this process? I learned that it's actually really hard to take pictures of jewelry and sparkley things because the flash reflects the sparkles and makes it hard to take a good photograph! I also learned that my boss hates having her picture taken, haha!
      • What is your favorite image and why? My favorite picture is Tree, the picture of all the necklaces hanging because the picture really shows a lot of different colors in the necklaces, and the flash made the background turn black so it makes the necklaces appear really important and bold. Plus, I really love necklaces.

      Documentary Photography

I'm planning on documenting my birthday, I havent decided if i just want to document my party or the entire day. I chose this because I'm really excited to be turning 18 and i will be around a lot of people who are really important to me all day long. The pictures will either take place at my house or all of the places i go on my actual birthday. I'm going to try and take pictures of all of the people i spend my birthday with and maybe some pictures of myself. I'm going to take these pictures on Friday, October 28th.

      American Photography (Part 2)

When the magazine LIFE was created and published many people had no idea what was going on in other parts of the world. Photography was used to show people what was going on either right in their own backyard or some place across the world. All of these pictures helped tell a story, even without reading the article. The images in LIFE changed my mind about certain events because a lot of the terrible things that were happening in other countries were documented and helped inform us so we could be better educated about the world around us. Another major event in history discussed in the video was the explosion of the Hindenburg. This changed history because it documented quick shots and showed people what really happened even if they weren't there to see it. It helped prove how much emotion can be shown through a picture in such a huge tragedy.

I would love to document every day life in a different country. I don't care what era or anything like that i just think it would be really interesting and a great learning experience to go and live with a family somewhere else for a year or so and document what they do every day. I think it would be great to take pictures here because it would show people what life is really like there, rather than creating a fake image of their "life".

I would be interested in photographing a rally or protest because i think it would be really cool to see all of the emotion showed in a protest and all of the different types of people.

      Portraiture!

      Stripes

      Happy

      Flowers

      Purple

      Fun

      Chair

I really enjoyed taking pictures of Brittany because she had a lot of fun taking them and she's also one of my best friends so it was kind of just a fun outing! We also got to spend a lot of time together.

My personal favorite is the first one "Stripes" because it's really casual and she's smiling really big in it. I think this picture really shows a lot about Brittany's personality because she's a really happy go-lucky girl and she enjoys having a good time!

      Line, Color and Texture

      Line, Color and Texture.

Color. Increased exposure, vibrance, and brightness.

Color. Increased exposure, vibrance, contrast, color balance, and brightness.

Line. Increased vibrance, brightness and contrast.

Line. Increased vibrance, brightness and curves.

Texture. Increased hue, saturation, contrast, vibrance and exposure.

Texture. Increased vibrance, contrast, exposure, curves and darker hue.

The subject matter in my pictures is flowers, a calculator, books on a bookshelf, my cat, and the sidewalk. Almost all of my pictures I increased the vibrance and the contrast to help bring out all of the colors and details in each picture. Each of these pictures were taken around my house or on my way to school. The picture of the orange cat is my favorite picture because my cat Scooter means a lot to me and the colors in this picture I think are really bright and beautiful. During this project I realized that I really enjoy making every day objects look more abstract or making them look like something different. If I could do this project over again I would try and go to more places to get a better variety of pictures, I would also try and take more pictures at different angles to make each picture more unique.

      Flickr- Line, Color, and Texture

      1. Purple and yellow flower
      2. Extreme Close-Up
      3. Rule of Thirds.
      4. The brightness of the yellow center of the flower makes the photograph really "pop" and stand out. The angle really shows how brilliant the colors are.

      1. Chair, shadow, window and wall
      2. Medium Shot
      3. Asymmetry and rule of thirds
      4. All of the lines in the picture really make it unique and fun to look at. The entire picture has a lot of detail even though it's a picture of just a simple chair.

      1. Grass blowing in the wind, and blue sky
      2. Establishing Shot
      3. Rule of thirds
      4. The green of the grass really stands out and the mute blue makes the grass really bright. Each individual blade of grass is shown and you can see how each piece is bent in the wind.

      Learning Shots and Angles

      Extreme Close-Up

      Close-Up

      Low Angle

In order to show how high the plane is and to show how the people look in relation to the plane is what makes the low angle so important. If the picture was taken rather from inside the plane it would prove the plane to be much less important to the photograph.

      Bird's Eye View

      Symmetry

      Rule Of Thirds

The rule of thirds works well for this picture because it draws all of the attention to the hawk rather than to the background of the picture. It also splits the picture up well.

      American Photography (part 1)

The movie was based on what American Photography really was. From this video I learned all about where photography originated, all about the 20th century photography, what types of cameras were used, why they were used, ways photographs were used, and who did the majority of the photographs of that time.

Photography in America during the 20th century played a great role in helping everyone around the world and around the United States to better understand what was going on around them in the places that they couldn't visit or see. Edward Curtis was a great well-known photographer of Native Americans. He spent most of his life helping people to understand the Native American lifestyle. He created a perfect picture and would dress the people up to look better for photographs. Many people argued that his pictures were in fact beautiful, but they did not portray many of the Natives as they would have looked in their true everyday attire or in their realistic world. Photography also helped people prove points. For example, the child labor laws that many people were fighting to have made illegal. Many people fighting for these reasons would go to child labor centers and take pictures of the children working and how hard their lives were. This influenced people to also fight to change these laws. Photography also brought forth many great other forms and ideas in the art industry. Photography helped people advertise, express ideas and opinions, see what their relatives were up to, and learn about the world they didn't know much about.

In watching the video, a few questions came to mind but the main one that I thought of was: How are photographs produced in a "dark room"?

      What Is Art?

      "What is Art?"

Art- 1. The expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power. 2. Works produced by such skill and imagination.

Art is a way of expression, a way people can show who they truly are and how they feel. To me, art is a way of being able to escape from the conformities of the every day world. Society may take certain things as right or wrong, there is no wrong way to make art or to create art. Art helps people escape because you can create whatever you want when you make it. You could make something look realistic or futuristic, or even imaginary. Many people enjoy making abstract art pieces because it's a way to use their imagination and a way to create something new and unique.

Anything can be art, art can be anything. I truly think that if you want to look at something as being art, then it is! Art is everywhere, there isn't a place in this world that contains no art. Art can be so simple, or so complex there's no true way to define it. I would love to know more about art including who came up with the definition, what earlier people used to create art with, and what I could do to help support the art community.
