Documentary Photography

I'm planning on documenting my birthday, I havent decided if i just want to document my party or the entire day. I chose this because I'm really excited to be turning 18 and i will be around a lot of people who are really important to me all day long. The pictures will either take place at my house or all of the places i go on my actual birthday. I'm going to try and take pictures of all of the people i spend my birthday with and maybe some pictures of myself. I'm going to take these pictures on Friday, October 28th.

American Photography (Part 2)

When the magazine LIFE was created and published many people had no idea what was going on in other parts of the world. Photography was used to show people what was going on either right in their own backyard or some place across the world. All of these pictures helped tell a story, even without reading the article. The images in LIFE changed my mind about certain events because a lot of the terrible things that were happening in other countries were documented and helped inform us so we could be better educated about the world around us. Another major event in history discussed in the video was the explosion of the Hindenburg. This changed history because it documented quick shots and showed people what really happened even if they weren't there to see it. It helped prove how much emotion can be shown through a picture in such a huge tragedy. 




I would love to document every day life in a different country. I don't care what era or anything like that i just think it would be really interesting and a great learning experience to go and live with a family somewhere else for a year or so and document what they do every day. I think it would be great to take pictures here because it would show people what life is really like there, rather than creating a fake image of their "life".


I would be interested in photographing a rally or protest because i think it would be really cool to see all of the emotion showed in a protest and all of the different types of people.

I really enjoyed taking pictures of Brittany because she had a lot of fun taking them and she's also one of my best friends so it was kind of just a fun outing! We also got to spend a lot of time together.

My personal favorite is the first one "Stripes" because it's really casual and she's smiling really big in it. I think this picture really shows a lot about Brittany's personality because she's a really happy go-lucky girl and she enjoys having a good time!

The subject matter in my pictures is flowers, a calculator, books on a bookshelf, my cat, and the sidewalk. Almost all of my pictures I increased the vibrance and the contrast to help bring out all of the colors and details in each picture. Each of these pictures were taken around my house or on my way to school. The picture of the orange cat is my favorite picture because my cat Scooter means a lot to me and the colors in this picture I think are really bright and beautiful. During this project I realized that I really enjoy making every day objects look more abstract or making them look like something different. If I could do this project over again I would try and go to more places to get a better variety of pictures, I would also try and take more pictures at different angles to make each picture more unique.

4. The brightness of the yellow center of the flower makes the photograph really "pop" and stand out. The angle really shows how brilliant the colors are.

4. All of the lines in the picture really make it unique and fun to look at. The entire picture has a lot of detail even though it's a picture of just a simple chair.

If this shot was taken from farther away it would completely change the photograph. The idea of this picture is to magnify the eye so that it is seen as the most important thing in the photograph. If the camera was zoomed out, the picture would no longer focus on the eye and it would focus rather on either the entire animal or on something larger.

In order to show how high the plane is and to show how the people look in relation to the plane is what makes the low angle so important. If the picture was taken rather from inside the plane it would prove the plane to be much less important to the photograph.

The rule of thirds works well for this picture because it draws all of the attention to the hawk rather than to the background of the picture. It also splits the picture up well.
